Daniela Hantuchova booked her place in the quarter-finals of the Pacific Life Open after the defending champion beat Sania Mirza 6-1 7-6.

Hantuchova, seeded fifth, broke in the second and fourth games to race through the opening set in 39 minutes.

After trading service breaks early in the second set, the elegant Slovakian broke again in the 11th game to lead 6-5.

And although Hantuchova then lost her own serve, she closed out the result by winning the subsequent tie-break 7-4.

She will now play Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova who overcame Alona Bondarenko.
