Daniela Hantuchova booked her place in the quarter-finals of the Pacific Life Open after the defending champion beat Sania Mirza 6-1 7-6.
Hantuchova, seeded fifth, broke in the second and fourth games to race through the opening set in 39 minutes.

Australian Open champion Maria Sharapova was given a scare by Alona Bondarenko before maintaining her perfect start to the year at the Pacific Life Championship.
